The 0.56-inch Red 4-Digit 7-Segment LED Display is a bright and easy-to-read numeric display suitable for electronic counters, clocks, timers, measurement instruments, control panels, and microcontroller-based projects.

It features four 0.56-inch digits with bright red LED segments on a black face, providing excellent contrast and clear visibility. The display uses a Common Cathode (CC) configuration and a 12-pin package, making it suitable for multiplexed control with Arduino, ESP32, and other microcontrollers.

Seven-segment LED displays provide a simple, reliable, and cost-effective solution for displaying numerical information such as time, measurements, quantities, counts, and other numeric values.

LED Construction

The display uses bright red LED chips manufactured using AlGaAs (Aluminum Gallium Arsenide) on a GaAs substrate, providing efficient red illumination and good character visibility.

The black display face improves contrast between illuminated and non-illuminated segments.

Common Cathode Operation

This display uses a Common Cathode (CC) configuration. The cathodes of the LED segments for each digit share a common connection.

To illuminate a required segment, the corresponding segment anode is driven HIGH while the appropriate digit common cathode is activated.

Multiplexed Control

The four digits are typically controlled using multiplexing. The controller rapidly switches between the individual digits while applying the required segment pattern.

This switching occurs fast enough that the human eye perceives all four digits as being continuously illuminated.

Suitable current-limiting resistors should be used with the LED segments to protect the display and control electronics.
