The 12V 4020 Cooling Fan is a compact high-speed DC fan designed for cooling electronic equipment, 3D printers, power supplies, control boards, enclosures, embedded systems, and other heat-generating electronics.
With a compact 40 × 40 × 20mm frame, 7000RPM fan speed, and low 0.15A current consumption, it provides effective forced-air cooling in applications where installation space is limited.
Operating from a standard 12V DC supply, the fan is easy to integrate into a wide range of electronic and mechanical systems.
Key Features
- Compact 4020 fan size
- 40 × 40 × 20mm dimensions
- 12V DC operation
- 0.15A rated current
- Approx. 1.8W power consumption
- High-speed 7000RPM operation
- Specified noise level of approximately 23dB
- Compact design for space-limited installations
- Suitable for electronics cooling
- Ideal for 3D printers and embedded systems
Compact 4020 Design
The 4020 designation represents the approximate fan dimensions:
40 × 40 × 20mm
Its compact size makes the fan suitable for equipment where a standard 80mm or 120mm cooling fan would be too large.
7000RPM High-Speed Cooling
The fan operates at approximately:
7000RPM
The high rotational speed provides forced airflow for cooling compact electronic components and assemblies.
It is particularly useful for cooling components such as:
- Heatsinks
- Motor drivers
- Power regulators
- Control boards
- Power supplies
- 3D printer electronics
- Embedded computers
12V DC Operation
The fan operates from a standard 12V DC power supply.
-
Rated Voltage: 12V DC
-
Rated Current: 0.15A
-
Calculated Power Consumption: Approx. 1.8W
A suitable regulated 12V DC power supply should be used.
Low Current Consumption
With a rated current of approximately 150mA, the fan consumes approximately:
1.8W at 12V DC
This makes it suitable for compact electronic systems requiring active cooling without a high power requirement.
Noise Level
The specified operating noise level is approximately:
23dB
Actual acoustic noise can vary depending on mounting method, airflow restriction, enclosure design, operating voltage, vibration, and surrounding equipment.

Installation
Install the fan so that airflow is directed across the components requiring cooling.
It can be configured to:
- Draw cooler air into an enclosure
- Exhaust hot air from an enclosure
- Provide direct airflow across a heatsink
- Cool power electronics or control boards
Avoid blocking the fan intake or exhaust, as airflow restrictions can reduce cooling performance.
Microcontroller Control
The fan requires approximately 150mA, which is significantly more current than a typical microcontroller GPIO pin can safely provide.
Do not connect the fan directly to an Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico, or similar GPIO output.
For microcontroller-controlled operation, use an appropriate:
- MOSFET
- Transistor
- Relay
- Fan driver circuit
The fan should be powered from a suitable 12V DC supply, with a common ground where required by the control circuit.
