Multiplexer Operation

Each of the four channels has two possible data inputs. The common Select input determines which group of inputs is connected to the outputs.

When one input group is selected, all four corresponding signals are passed to their respective outputs simultaneously.

This allows the 74157 to function as a 4-bit electronic data switch, selecting between two different 4-bit data sources.

Common Enable / Strobe

The device includes a common Enable / Strobe control input that affects all four multiplexer channels.

When the device is enabled, the selected data inputs are routed to their respective outputs. When disabled, the outputs are forced to the device's defined inactive logic state.
